In 2002 we contracted with Caldwell Construction, along with Blue Ridge Timberwrights, to build a special home in the mountains of North Carolina, a post and beam residence constructed on a frame of centuries-old Douglas Fir timber reclaimed after 80 years of utility as floating docks in the St. Lawrence Seaway. The project would be a collaborative effort among designer, framer, and general contractor in three different states to fashion a structure that would yield an attractive exterior and aesthetically pleasing and functional interior living spaces within the bents of a custom-engineered timber frame. It would not have been completely surprising had we encountered some skepticism about the project before us. To our considerable satisfaction, all parties were excited and proactive about the task. The communication long distance and the problem solving, much of it on-site, were among the most impressive processes we ever had the good fortune to witness – in any endeavor.

Caldwell Construction must receive special credit because its owner, project manager, foreman, and personnel took the initiative in making the designer’s and framer’s creation happen “on the ground.” Everyone who participated in this grand undertaking is to be commended. Our dream home is now a reality. We continue to remain in contact with our Caldwell Construction “family.” Those fine people are much more to us than just a company. They are our friends and neighbors. We offer our unqualified endorsement of their commitment to excellence in custom homebuilding.

We enjoyed working with Caldwell Construction Company.  Our new construction was 3 hours away from where we lived, so it was imperative that we could trust our builder with many decisions.  Our main contact was the foreman on the job site.  He was thorough in every decision made and easily accessible.  We had constant contact with him via phone and the company sent us pictures to show the progress.

David built our original log home and a recent addition.  I’ve owned several homes and the quality of the workmanship and materials rates as high as any in the industry and you will get what you pay for in a custom built home.  David and his associates take personal interest during the design phase of your home and will coach you through a decision process with more patience than most and Tammy and their staff will do whatever it takes to accommodate your needs during the construction process.

We got to know the artisans that work for David and they are real professionals with experience and they know their trade.  The subcontractors—electricians, plumbers, masons—are some of the best in the area.  I’ve learned through the years that building a custom built home in the mountains has its challenges and surprises and I would recommend Caldwell Construction over most others in the area.
